FLEMINGTON, NJ - Senior pitcher
Brandon Smith started the game and tossed five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while senior pitcher
Glenn Cox came on in relief to pick up the win, throwing five innings and allowing four runs on four hits as the College at Florham Devils beat Rutgers-Camden, 8-7, in 10 innings on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 2-0 while the Raptors dropped to 3-3.
Camden got on the board first, posting three runs in the top of the first inning but FDU got one back in the bottom half on a RBI double by junior shortstop
Steve Seminerio. The Devils took the lead, 5-3, with four runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two-run singles by senior catcher
Joe Meglio and junior third baseman
John Pieper. The Raptors took a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh on a grand slam but FDU came right back to tie it at 7-7 in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from junior designated hitter
Matt Joiner. The game remained tied through the ninth and the Devils held Camden scoreless in the top of the 10th. FDU had the bases loaded with one out on three walks when Meglio hit a ground ball to the shortstop. The Raptors got the out at second but Meglio hustled it out and beat the throw, allowing the Devils to get the win.
Meglio drove in three runs on the day while Joiner and Pieper each had two RBI. Seminerio and junior first baseman
Ryan Fandel had two hits apiece. The win gave Cox his second in as many games.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, March 12, 2011, when they begin their Florida Spring Trip against Suffolk at 12:30 pm.
