MAHWAH, NJ -Sophomore pitcher
Bobby Smith (Fishkill, NY/John Jay) tossed five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits to pick up the win as the College at Florham Devils beat Ramapo, 10-5, to move their winning streak to 10 games in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 18-3.
Ramapo got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second inning but the Devils came right back to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the third on a three-run double by senior third baseman
Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic). The Roadrunners cut it to 3-2 in their half of the fourth before FDU plated three in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead thanks to a passed ball and a two-run single by freshman outfielder
Ryan Kalish (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson). The Devils then made it 8-2 in the top of the sixth on a two-run home run by sophomore designated hitter
Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham). Ramapo got one of those runs back in their half of the sixth to close to 8-3 but FDU tacked on two more in the top of the eighth to grab a 10-3 advantage on a RBI single by sophomore shortstop
Steve Seminerio (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman
Ryan Fandel (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central). Ramapo tried to mount a late rally as the pulled to within 10-5 in the bottom of the eighth but that was as close as the Devils would let them get.
Joiner finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while Seminerio went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI.
After Smith, Joiner threw two innings of relief and allowed one run on two hits. Sophomore pitchers
Mike Winters (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) and
Chris Laudati (Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearly) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, respectively.
The Devils return to action on Friday, April 9, 2010, at home against Misericordia beginning at 3:30 pm.
