Devils Run Win Streak To Nine With 14-1 Win Over Maritime

THROGGS NECK, NY - The College at Florham Devils had six different players drive in at least two runs in a 14-1 win over Maritime in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

With the win, the Devils improved to 17-3.

Sophomore shortstop Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) got the ball rolling in the top of the first inning with a solo home run and the Devils made it 4-0 in the fourth inning on a back-to-back solo home runs by freshman outfielder Nick Core (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and junior catcher Joe Meglio (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic), and a sacrifice fly by junior outfielder Dan Pregno (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley).  FDU went up 6-0 in the fifth thanks to a RBI single by junior outfielder Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and a bases loaded walk from sophomore infielder John Pieper (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls).  The Devils tacked on four more in the sixth to take a 10-0 advantage on sac fly by Core, another bases loaded walk by Pieper and a two-run double by senior infielder Chris Baldino (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge).  Maritime finally got on the board in their half of the seventh but the Devils added four more runs in the eighth to earn the win.

Pregno, Seminerio, Core, Pieper, Baldino and senior third baseman Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) all had two RBI.  Core also had three hits and two runs scored while Pieper had two hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher George Savaides (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) made his first appearance of the season, starting and going three innings while allowing no runs on three hits and striking out three.  Sophomore pitcher Matt LaTorre (Galloway, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) tossed the next three innings and picked up the win, allowing no runs on one hit.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Ramapo beginning at 3:30 pm.
