Geran Powers Devils To 20-5 Win Over DeSales

MADISON, NJ - Senior designated hitter Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) drilled two grand slam home runs in the first two innings to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 20-5 win over DeSales in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 28-6 (15-4 Freedom) while the Bulldogs dropped to 22-15 (15-4 Freedom).  If the Devils take one of the two games against the Bulldogs tomorrow then FDU will be the top seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament but if DeSales sweeps the doubleheader then they will be the one seed.

The Devils posted four runs in the bottom of the first inning on Geran's first grand slam but DeSales came back with three runs in the top of the second inning to make it 4-3.  FDU put the game away in the bottom of the second inning by scoring 11 runs, highlighted by another grand slam from Geran.

Geran finished the day by going 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and nine RBI.  Senior outfielder Mike Zangrillo (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, junior outfielder Dan Pregno (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI, and sophomore shortstop Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs scored and a RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Glenn Cox (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) started and picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing four runs on 11 hits.  Senior pitcher Adam Garry (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) tossed the eighth inning and in doing so, he tied the FDU All-Time record for appearances in a career with 53.

The Devils and Bulldogs return to action with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Center Valley, PA, beginning at 1 pm.
