Hubbert, Mizerek Lift Devils Over Delaware Valley, 13-2

MADISON, NJ - Sophomore pitcher Matt Mizerek (Matawan, NJ/Matawan) tossed six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six and senior catcher Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI to lead the College at Florham Devils to a 13-2 win over Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Devils improved to 14-3 (6-1 Freedom) while the Aggies dropped to 8-10 (1-7 Freedom).

FDU got started immediately as a RBI double by Hubbert gave the Devils a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  The Devils made it 2-0 in the second on a solo home run by junior outfielder Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and 4-0 in the third thanks to a two-run single by senior third baseman Joey Santillo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive).  Delaware Valley cut it to 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning but FDU increased its lead to 6-1 in the bottom half of the fourth on a RBI double by Sariyan and a sacrifice fly by sophomore shortstop Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park).  After the Aggies closed to 6-2 in the top of the sixth, the Devils broke the game open in the bottom half with four runs to take a 10-2 lead when senior second baseman Chris Baldino (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) scored on a wild pitch, a RBI single from Hubbert, a RBI single by sophomore designated hitter Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Ryan Fandel (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central).  The Devils tacked on three more runs in the seventh to put the game completely out of reach.

Sariyan finished 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while Joiner went 3-for-5 with a stolen base, a run scored and two RBI.  Baldino and junior outfielder Dan Pregno (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) each had two hits and two runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher Matt LaTorre (Galloway, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), senior pitcher Bill Buckless (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and sophomore pitcher Mike Winters (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 3, 2010, with a doubleheader at home against Manhattanville beginning at 1 pm.
