Joey Santillo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) and three hits and two RBI from senior outfielder
Mike Zangrillo (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) to beat Western Connecticut, 10-2, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Devils improved to 21-4.
The Colonials jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Devils got the run right back in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by sophomore designated hitter
Matt Joiner (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham). FDU made it 4-1 in the third thanks to a three-home run by Santillo and after Western Connecticut cut it to 4-2 in the top of the fifth, the Devils plated three more in the bottom of the fifth to grab a 7-2 advantage on RBI singles by senior catcher
Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro), junior outfielder
Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and Zangrillo. The Devils put the game out of reach with three insurance runs in the seventh to make it 10-2.
Santillo finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI while Zangrillo went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI. Sariyan and sophomore shortstop
Steve Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) each added three hits.
Sophomore pitcher
Bobby Smith (Fishkill, NY/John Jay) picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out eight.
The Devils return to action on Friday, April 16, 2010, at Eastern beginning at 3:30 pm.
