Top Of The Order Gets It Done In 9-5 Win Over Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The number 1-5 hitters for the College at Florham Devils went 11-for-25 with six runs scored and five RBI to lead FDU to a 9-5 win over Wilkes in Freedom Conference action on Friday afternoon.  It was the first game in a three-game weekend series.

With the win, the Devils improved to 9-3 (2-1 Freedom) while the Colonels dropped to 4-7 (0-4 Freedom).

The Devils got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning on a RBI single by senior third baseman Greg Geran (Brick, NJ/Red Bank Catholic).  FDU grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the seventh thanks to a RBI double by sophomore shortstop Steven Seminerio (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) and a RBI single by senior catcher Marc Hubbert (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro).  Wilkes got both of those runs back in their half of the seventh to make it 3-2 but FDU pushed across four more in the eighth to grab a 7-2 advantage on an unearned run, a RBI triple by senior second baseman Chris Baldino (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and RBI singles from junior outfielder Dan Pregno (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) and Seminerio.  Wilkes cut the deficit to 7-4 in the bottom of the half but the Devils continued scoring in the ninth with a two-run double by junior outfielder Alex Sariyan (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) that gave them a 9-4 edge.  Wilkes pushed one across in their last at-bat but that was all the Devils would allow in earning the win.

Seminerio finished the game 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, a run scored and two RBI while Preno went 3-for-5 with a stolen base, two runs and a RBI.  Hubbert and Baldino each had two hits and a RBI while Sariyan had two hits and two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Glenn Cox (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) had a fantastic outing, picking up the win by tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four.  Cox is now 3-0 on the season with a team-leading 2.59 ERA.

The two teams return to action on Saturday, March 27, 2010, with a doubleheader in Madison beginning at 1 pm.
