Kreinberg Becomes First Female Track & Field Student Athlete to Compete at Nationals

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham track & field program will see its first female student-athlete compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 13 and 14 as sophomore Meghan Kreinberg will compete in the women's high jump.

Kreinberg, a Union, N.J. native, had an outstanding indoor season for the Devils. She set a new school record in the women's high jump twice as she recorded a height of 1.65 meters at the NYU DIII Invitational. She followed up this performance with another record-breaking day at the AARTFC Indoor Championship at the Armory in New York City as she cleared a height of 1.67 meters and took home a third-place finish.

"Meghan is the first woman in program history to qualify for the NCAA National Championships, and that's something we're incredibly proud of," said head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach Steve Leo. "Making NCAA Nationals is one of the hardest things to do in college sports. Meghan is now one of the top 20 high jumpers in the country in a field that includes athletes from more than 300 Division III schools."

This was the second year in a row that Kreinberg broke her own school record. Last season, she recorded a jump of 1.58 meters. In just one season, the sophomore stand-out has increased her height by .09 meters. Kreinberg's success at the national meet comes down to focus and execution says Leo. "She'll be competing against the 20 best high jumpers in the country, so every attempt counts. She is one of the toughest competitors I've been around and we know she's going to give everything she has."

In just his first year as FDU's head track & field coach, Leo is proving he has what it takes to turn around a program and set it up for future success. "This is another step forward for FDU Track & Field and a sign that we're building a competitive Division III program. It reflects the strength of our coaching staff, which brings a lot of experience and knowledge," said Leo. "Coach Donny [Bellamy] is a high jump expert, and anyone who wants to become a great high jumper should want to work with him."

Kreinberg is set to compete on Saturday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
