Making our top 10 list at #1: Football Crowned #3 Seed Centennial-MAC Champions with a 49-14 Win Over Dickinson
Madison, NJ (November 23)- In their first appearance of the Centennial-MAC Bowl series, the #3 FDU-Florham Football team (7-4, 5-4 MAC) hosted the #3 Dickinson College Red Devils (5-6, 2-4 Centennial) and secured the final game of the season with a 49-14 win to be called Bowl Champions.
After FDU-Florham secured the win, Kwanir Edwards (Trenton, NJ) was named the game MVP as he collected 5 touchdowns on 27 carries, for a total of 159 yards. The junior also surpassed the mark of 1,000 rushing yards in a season to cap the win. Senior Ryon Thomas (Mattapoisett, Mass.) added his offensive flair with touchdowns on the day, one through the air and the other through the defensive line. Thomas threw for 216 yards on 18 completions and ran for 90 yards on 20 carries. The top target on the field today was two devils as Anthony Bilotta (Cedar Hills, NJ) caught the only receiving touchdown, and Aidan Clowry (Pawling, NY) topped the box score with 55 yards on five receptions.
The Devil defense was a collective effort throughout as two players tied with five total tackles, Christian Puntolillo ( Wayne, NJ) and Nathan Saccal (Alexandria, NJ), including an interception by Saccal. Matt Heineman ( Staten Island, NY) added two sacks on the day for a total of 17 yards.
Neither team's offense could start their first drives with a score. It wasn't until the middle of the first quarter as Dickinson completed a 26-yard pass for the first six points of the game and capped the drive with an extra point. FDU-Florham was able to tie the game with seven points of their own after Edwards rushed the ball up the middle and scored their extra point before the first 15 minutes expired.
The Devils kept the momentum flowing into the second quarter as they added another touchdown after 7 plays and 58 yards. FDU-Florham was given the ball back after Dickinson was forced to punt but fumbled the snap and only made it to the DCD25. With 1:36 remaining in the half FDU-Florham was able to run up the score to read 21-7 after a touchdown completion to Bilotta.
The Red Devils received the kick to start the second half, but returned the ball after getting to the FDU43 with three first downs, then punting to the Devils for a touch back. Starting their drive at their own 20, FDU strung together 12 plays to complete the remaining 80 yards for Thomas' rushing touchdown, 28-7.
The third quarter came to a close after the Red Devils found a receiver open for a 21-yard touchdown, having the game come within a two-score reach, 28-14.
With a new 15 minutes on the clock, FDU-Florham kept the same rhythm they had since the opening kick, as Edwards rushed a 50-yard touchdown in. The FDU defense shut down the Red Devil offense with a quick four-and-out, ending at the DCD32. The home-field Devils were able to score twice in the quarter, 49-14, before the clock expired and crowning themseleves the #3 seeded Centennial-MAC Bowl Series champions.
