Center Valley, Pa. (April 9) – FDU-Florham Women's Tennis (1-9, 0-1 MAC Freedom) battled with DeSales (5-6, 1-0 MAC Freedom) for their first conference matchup of the spring season. Unfortunately, they lost by a score of 7-0.
FDU kicked off their match with doubles. The Devils had
Meliha Bektesevic (Wayne, NJ) and
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) take on Tomlinson and Maus in Doubles #1, but fell by a score of 6-2.
Ivonne Ambrosio Vargas and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) matched up with Prokopovich and Prince, but were beaten by a score of 6-3. The last doubles match was played by
Lindsay Sperling (Whippany, NJ) and
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) against Sisti and Nazif, and although they were the closest, they fell by a score of 6-4.
Match #1 of the singles had Bektesevic face off against Tomlinson, and set two was close, but ultimately she fell by a score of 6-2, 7-5. Vargas battled Maus in Singles #2, and lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Singles #3 saw Vanegas take on Prokopovich, which Vanegas lost, with the first set going 6-4 before retiring before the second set.
Singles #4 was the closest of the night, as it saw a set win for the Devils as Sperling played against Prince. Unfortunately she fell just short as she lost in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 0-1, with the tiebreaker being at 13-11. Singles #5 and #6 saw the same result, as Caraccioli and
Haidy Abdelmonem (Linden, NJ) lost in straight sets to Sisti and Nazif, 6-0, 6-0.
FDU-Florham will take on Misericordia for their second MAC Conference matchup on April 11
th. First match starts at 3:00 PM.
