Dallas, Pa. (April 11) – FDU-Florham Women's Tennis (1-10, 0-2 MAC Freedom) took on Misericordia (7-2, 3-1 MAC Freedom), and although they took their first match of the season, ultimately the Devils were defeated by a score 6-1.
FDU started off their matches with doubles. The Devils had
Meliha Bektesevic (Wayne, NJ) and
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) battle Loughlin and Barbour in Doubles #1, but fell by a score of 6-1.
Lindsay Sperling (Whippany, NJ) and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) lost by the same score to Cridge and Thomas in Doubles #2. The last doubles match was played by
Haidy Abdelmonem (Linden, NJ) and
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) against Wallitsch and Stefanski, and was by a 6-0 score.
Match #1 of singles had Bektesevic battle Loughlin, and Bektesevic came out victorious, winning in a 7-5, 6-4 match and putting the Devils up 1-0. Unfortunately, that was the only victory that FDU would see against Misericordia. Vanegas lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to Barbour in singles #2. Singles #3 wasn't much better as Sperling lost 6-0, 6-1 to Cridge.
Singles #4 saw Caraccioli put up a fight, but fell 6-3, 6-0 to Miller, who stepped in for singles. Abdelmonem and Guzman both fell in straight sets to Wallitsch and Slusser, who stepped in for singles, in Singles #5 and #6, and Misericordia picked up the win by a score of 6-1.
FDU-Florham will face off against Stevens on April 15
th at home. Doubles matches will start at 3:30 PM.
