Center Valley, PA (April 9)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis team (5-4, 1-0 MAC Freedom) captured its first MAC Freedom win of the season over DeSales (2-8, 0-1 MAC Freedom) by a 5-2 score. Your Devils secured all matches in the Doubles portion and took 4 matches in the Singles.
The meeting between the two teams, first being in Doubles as
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) set the tone by taking the 6-2 win in Doubles #1. Easily securing the Doubles #2 point was
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) and
Nick Weglinski (Wayne, NJ), who won by a 6-1 score.
Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) and
Jaden Andresen (Branford, Conn.) followed in the path of their teammates and helped secure Doubles #3 after winning 6-1, ultimately taking the overall point.
Singles #1 went into three sets to decide its winner as Emery kept alive until the third set when he lost by a 6-3 score (7-5, 6-4). Duval quickly made work in Singles #2 as he secured the match with 6-1, 6-0 scores. Taking on the task in Singles #3 was Liwag as he came close in the first set, 7-5, but managed to hold for a 6-0 victory.
In the back half of the singles matches, Weglinski played Singles #4 and saw a 6-2, 6-1 score. Miller did the same in Singles #5 but just reversed the order of set scores for the win, 6-1, 6-2.
Singles #6 was given to DeSales as their second point and final point of the match as the Devils has to forfeit. Fortunately, FDU-Florham claimed enough points to take its first MAC Freedom win by a 5-2 score.
FDU-Florham will have a quick turnaround as they are set to host Lebanon Valley on Thursday, April 10 for a 3:30 pm MAC Freedom matchup.
