Madison, NJ (April 27)- For it's final regular season MAC Freedom contest, the FDU-Florham Devils Men's Tennis team (9-7, 3-3 MAC Freedom) hosted the Arcadia Knights (7-7, 4-2, MAC Freedom) and saw a result that led to a 5-2 loss, but clinched the MAC Freedom Playoffs for the fifth year in a row.
The result of Doubles #1 saw
Matthew Emery (Howel, NJ) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) as the only Devils to claim victory (6-1) in the doubles portion of the match.
Nick Weglinski (Wayne, NJ) and
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) in Doubles #2, and
Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) and
Jaden Andresen (Branford, Conn.) in Doubles #3 were served losses (6-4) (6-1), resulting in the doubles point accounting for the Knights.
The first three Singles matches were won by Arcadia as Emery (Singles #1) and Duval (Singles #2) lost in three sets by 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 scores and 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 scores. Liwag fell short and was only able to play in two sets during Singles #3 and produced a 6-4, 6-2 loss.
Singles #4 and Singles #6 saw success for the Devils as Weglinski won 6-2, 6-2 in #2 and Andresen closed #6 by a dominating 6-1, 6-3 win.
Miller was the final Devil to compete in the match as he did not go down without a fight, putting up three set scores of 6-4, 6-3, 10-8 in Singles #5.
Despite the loss, a conference record of 3-3, pushed FDU-Florham into the MAC Freedom Championship Tournament. The Devils will face #1 seeded Stevens on Tuesday, April 29 at 3pm on the Ducks campus, for the Semifinal round.
