Union, NJ (April 26) – FDU-Florham Women's Tennis (1-14, 0-5 MAC Freedom) traveled to play against Kean (10-4), and although it was close, Kean won by a score of 4-3.
The day started with doubles. Doubles #1 was first, with
Meliha Bektesevic (Wayne, NJ) and
Ivonne Vargas fighting Del Pino and Kuchkorova, but they fell by a score of 6-2.
Doubles #2 saw the exact same scoreline, as
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) dueled with Mendoza-Tarazona and Halimana, but lost 6-2. Doubles #3 was with
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) and
Lindsay Sperling (Whippany, NJ) who faced off against Gutierrez and Hunter, but dropped the match 6-1, giving Kean the lead in the match 1-0.
Singles #1 saw FDU tie the overall match score, as Bektesevic achieved victory against Del Pino by a score of 6-4, 7-6, while winning set two on tiebreakers, 10-7. Vargas put the Devils ahead, as she also won her match, this time against Mendoza-Tarazona with a 7-5, 6-3 score to put the Devils up 2-1. Kean tied it up at two a piece, as Vanegas couldn't overcome Kuchkorova, losing by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
FDU took the lead right back as Sperling won Singles #4 against Halimana, winning the first set 7-5, dropping the second set 6-3, before bouncing back in the tiebreakers, succeeding with a 14-12 score. That put the Devils up 3-2. Unfortunately, FDU would drop the final two matches, as Singles #5 saw Caraccioli get beaten by Hunter, 6-2, 6-1, and Singles #6 saw Guzman lose in straight sets to Gutierrez, 6-0, 6-0, meaning Kean won the overall match, 4-3.
FDU-Florham will play its final match of the season at home on April 27
th, as they battle Arcadia in MAC Freedom action. The first matches will start at 12:00 PM.
