Madison, NJ (April 17) – FDU-Florham Women's Tennis (1-13, 0-5 MAC Freedom) faced off against Lebanon Valley (8-8, 2-1 MAC Freedom) in their final day of three straight matches. Unfortunately, they faltered by a score of 7-0.
The day commensed with doubles matches. Doubles match #1 was close, with
Meliha Bektesevic (Wayne, NJ) and
Ivonne Vargas dueling with McComas and Badner, and although it was close, they fell by a score of 7-5. Doubles #2 saw
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) battle Martin and Berra, but they dropped the match, this time by a score of 6-1. Doubles #3 was with
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) and
Haidy Abdelmonem (Linden, NJ), who took on DeLisio and Denbowski, and sadly got swept, 6-0, giving the first official match point to Lebanon Valley.
Singles #1 was the closest match of the night, as it saw Bektesevic go up against McComas. Bektesevic took the first set 6-3, but lost the second 7-5 and the tiebreaker 10-4. Singles #2 saw Vargas fight Stone, who was only in singles, and fell by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Singles #3, 4, 5, and 6 unfortunately all saw the same result, as Vanegas,
Lindsay Sperling (Whippany, NJ), Caraccioli, and Guzman all fell in 6-0, 6-0 sets to Badner, Bryant, Miner, and Kelly, with the last three being in singles only. That left the overall score as a sweep, as the Flying Dutchmen beat the Devils by a score of 7-0.
FDU-Florham will take a little break after playing in three straight days, and come back strong on April 25
th, as they take on Kean on the road for non-conference action. The first matches will start at 4:00 PM.
