Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (April 16) – FDU-Florham Women's Tennis (1-12, 0-4 MAC Freedom) traveled to Wilkes-Barre to fight King's (3-12, 1-2 MAC Freedom) in their second of three matches in a row. Although they won some matches, overall they were defeated by a score of 5-2.
FDU started off with their doubles matches. The Devils had
Meliha Bektesevic (Wayne, NJ) and
Ivonne Vargas take on Kenia and Dellose in Doubles #1, but fell by a score of 6-4.
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) and
Lindsay Sperling (Whippany, NJ) battled against Stettler and Allen in Doubles #2, and although they took them to tiebreakers, they fell 7-6, with it being 4-0 on tiebreakers.
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) and
Haidy Abdelmonem (Linden, NJ) went up against Eiswerth and Sirianni, but lost 6-3 in Doubles #3, which gave King's the 1-0 lead overall in the match.
Match one of singles started off well, as Bektesevic earned her second match win of the spring season, beating Kenia with two straight 6-4's, and tied the overall score at one-a-piece. Vargas took her first set over Dellose in Singles #2, but lost the next two sets, both by 6-3, to put King's in the lead once again. They furthered it as Vanegas fell to Stettler 6-3, 6-2.
Singles #4 saw the Devils second set win, as Sperling defeated Allen by two straight 6-3's to shrink King's lead to 3-2. Unfortunately, Abdelmonem fell to Eiswerth 6-2, 6-0, and Guzman lost 6-1, 7-5 against Sirianni in Singles #5 and #6, meaning FDU lost the overall match 5-2 to King's.
FDU-Florham will complete their third match in a row at home against Lebanon Valley on April 17
th. The first matches will be at 3:00 PM.
