Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 16)- With each team looking for its first MAC Freedom win of the season, the FDU-Florham Devils Men's Lacrosse team was able to beat King's to the win as the Devils scored the game winning goal to keep them ahead within the last five minutes, as well prevailed on defense for the 9-8 win over the Monarchs.
FDU-Florham (8-5, 1-3 MAC Freedom) once again had
Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) led the box score for the Devils with a hat trick of his own, but the senior also managed ot notch his 100
th career goal in the win as well.
King's (1-12, 0-5 MAC Freedom) had Ryan Lynch on the attack as he recorded three goals and one assist.
The Devils allowed the heat to build fast as
Jarrett Dugenio (Bridgewater, NJ) found a flick of a pass from
Justin Perillo (Jackson, NJ) for not the first FDU goal, but the first of the game within the opening 45 seconds.
It was not until there was six minutes was remaining in the quarter that King's was able to first tie the score. FDU-Florham wanted a comfortable lead before heading into the new 15 minutes, therefore, they added their second and third goals.
Senior
, Ronnie Trisuzzi (Rockaway, NJ) kept the theme going for the Devils by notching a goal, 4-1, within the first 45 seconds of the new 15-minute quarter. FDU-Florham added one other goal but was met at half by a 5-4 score as the Monarchs scored three unanswered goals.
At the 11:57 mark of the third quarter, the game was seen at its second tie as King's made it a 5-5 conference contest. Fabin helped take the lead by with a man-down goal with five minutes remaining.
FDU-Florham continues to build its lead as it took it to a 8-5 score before King's was able to catch up to a one-goal difference with 8:16 left in the game. A goal by
Ricky Lewis (Washington, NJ) was named as the game winner before the Monarch netted one additional goal but was just out of reach, as the Devil defense took part and helped claim the 9-8 MAC Freedom win.
Anthony Pieroni (Branchburg, NJ) (8-5) took home the win with an effort of 11 saves in the full 60 minutes of action.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 38 shots, 49 ground balls, and won 11 face-offs.
King's as a team generated 33 shots, 39 ground balls, and won 10 face-offs.
FDU-Florham will look to Saturday, April 19 for its next contest, as they are scheduled to host Delaware Valley for a MAC Freedom contest. The team also plans to honor its 11 graduating players before the game.
