Allentown, PA (March 21) – The FDU-Florham Women's Tennis Team started the 2025 spring season with a non-conference match at Muhlenberg, but the score resulted in favor of the Mules as they took the 5-2 win.
All doubles competitions started and ended strong as the scores came within two points.
Meliha Bektesevic and
Ivonne Ambrosio Vargas both gave a valiant effort in Doubles #1 but fell just short of the win by a 6-4 score. In Doubles #2,
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) and
Lindsay Sperling (Whippany, NJ) railed for multiple rounds as they went into a 7-6 (7-5) score, but were not in favor of the winning digit.
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) and
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) collected FDU-Florham first point of the match as the Mules forfeited Doubles #3.
The Devils started off Singles #1 on a high as Bektesevic defeated her opponent by 6-1, 6-1 scores. Guzman also collected a win in Singles #6 as Muhlenberg forfeited a match once again.
Singles #2 was played by Vargas as she went into three sets by scores of 6-2, 1-6 but ultimately lost by a 6-2 score. Vanegas in Singles #3 and Sperling in Singles #4 both lost to the Mules by a score of 6-1, 6-2. The final match of the day for the Devils was a tough showing as Caraccioli put up sets of 3-6 and then 6-4 to stay alive but to a 6-3 loss on the third set.
FDU-Florham now looks to Monday, March 24 for its next match at Kean, which is scheduled for a 5pm start.
