Men's Hoops Rolls Past Medgar Evers, 84-58

MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team cruised to their largest win of the season Monday evening as the Devils topped Medgar Evers 84-58 at home.

DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Noah Pagan led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-12 from the field.
  • Chris Smith finished with 19 points on a perfect 8-for-8 from the field.
  • Mac Creek tallied 11 points with six rebounds and six assists
  • Frankie Denvir recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 boards
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Devils set the tone with a 16-4 start to open Monday night's competition. 
  • Pagan scored on three of four possessions for the Devils to put FDU up 28-14 with 5:32 remaining in the first half. 
  • Two free throws from Nate Mbuyamba at the 4:09 mark gave FDU its largest first half lead at 18, 32-14. 
  • The Devils used their advantage on rebounds to create second chance opportunities and took a commanding 37–20 lead at the break
  • The second half opened with FDU going on a 7-3 run and eventually taking a 25-point lead after an and-one from Denvir put the Devils ahead 54-19 with 12:45 left to play.
  • By the 4:24 mark, with the game well out of reach, Gino Romano all but put the game on ice with a trey to extend FDU's lead to 35, 79-44. 
  • The Cougars' Michael Perez did his best to keep Medgar Evers in the game, scoring 22 of the team's 58 points, but FDU's combination of rebounding and scoring was too much and the Devils came away with the 26-point victory.
GAME NOTES
  • FDU scored 44 points in the paint.
  • The Devils' bench chipped in 22 points.
  • FDU shot 18-for-33 (54.6%) in the second half
  • FDU dominated the glass, 52–39, including 17 offensive boards.
  • The Devils shot over 50% for the game and held Medgar Evers to 27% in the first half.
