MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team topped William Paterson 75-67 Saturday afternoon at home behind double-digit point performances from
Frankie Denvir,
Noah Pagan,
Chris Smith, and
Gino Romano.
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
- Denvir led all Devils scorers with 22 points and added six boards and four assists.
- Pagan and Romano finished with 12 points and seven and one rebound, respectively.
- Smith tallied 10 points and four boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Devils were assessed an administrative technical foul at the start of the game, FDU trailed 1-0 before tip-off. The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead after a Delani Hyde layup at the 19:7 mark. FDU answered with a trey from Denvir and a jumper from O'Malley King to go ahead 5-3. After William Paterson knotted the game at 5-5, Denvir put the Devils up 8-5 with another three-ball at the 16:42 mark. The Devils never trailed again after this point in the game.
- With 8:22 remaining in the half, FDU took a 31-18 lead, their biggest lead of the half, after yet another Denvir three-pointer on an assist from Mac Creek.
- After a 7-0 run from the Pioneers, King and Romano each knocked down a trey to put the Devils back ahead by 10 and after a layup from Pagan, FDU headed to the locker room up 42-31.
- Denvir began the second half with the hot hand as he knocked down his fifth three-pointer of contest to put the Devils ahead by 14, 45-31.
- FDU continued to hold a lead of 12 or more for much of the half with it ballooning to 20 points at both the 7:30 mark at 66-46 after a Romano triple and the 6:59 mark at 68-48 after a Pagan dunk.
- With 5:20 to play, after another Romano deep ball, FDU took a 22-point lead at 71-49, its largest lead of the day.
- The Pioneers then answered with a 12-0 run to cut their deficit to just seven, 71-64, with 2:12 left in regulation, but the Devils held strong and used two late free throws from Denvir to put the game on ice.
GAME NOTES
- Denvir's 22 points and five made three-pointers set new career highs for the sophomore
- Romano's 12 points and four made threes set new career highs for him as well.
- Saturday's 23 attempted three-pointers tied FDU's season-high for attempts in a game (Nov. 9 vs Centenary).
- FDU's 14 made three-pointers and 28 made field goals, were both season highs up to this point.

FDU returns to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 25 as the Devils head to the Big Apple to face John Jay College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
