Creek's Buzzer Beater Propels Men's Hoops Past Saint Elizabeth's

MADISON, N.J. – With FDU trailing 61-60, Saint Elizabeth's missed two free throws after the Devils were forced to foul. Micah Moore grabbed the ensuing board and with the clock at nine seconds, passed up to a charging Mac Creek who dribbled past two Eagles defenders and pulled up just inside the 3-point line and beat the final buzzer as he sank the pull-up jay to send the Ferguson Rec. Center into a frenzy, giving  FDU its first win of the season.

DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chris Smith finished with a double-double and led all Devils scorers with a 24-point effort and 10 boards.
  • Frankie Denvir was the only other Devils player in double figures as he finished with 12 points.
  • Creek, tallied eight points, including the game-winner, and nine boards and added three assists to his ledger.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles were first on the board in the first half as Saint E.'s Tye-Rell Monroe hit a deep ball just 21 seconds into the contest. Jorarei Bile then tallied the first score for the Devils and we were off.
  • The Eagles controlled the early part of the half as Saint Elizabeth's took a 12-7 lead before Devils head coach Keith Hack to call a 30 second timeout for his squad to regroup.
  • By the 6:56 mark in the half, FDU faced an eight-point deficit at 22-14. The Devils continued to fight but continued to trail and were still down by eight, 30-22, with 3:51 left before the break.
  • The final 3:37 became Smith's show as nine straight points from the junior forward gave FDU the lead at 31-30 with 31 seconds left.
  • The Eagles made the final shot of the half and took a 32-31 lead into the break, but the Devils were within one and overcame a late eight-point deficit.
  • Smith began the second half right where he left off in the first as he scored four of the Devils first six points in the half, with Denvir contributing the other two on a jumper in the paint, to take a 37-32 lead with 18:01 left to play.
  • The Devils held the lead for much of the second half, but with 8:06 left, the Eagles took their first lead of the half, and the two squads matched one another point for point from here on as neither team held a lead larger than three points for the rest of the game.
  • With 1:25 remaining, Denvir hit back-to-back free throws to knot the game at 58 apiece and then with only 24 seconds left, Smith made a tip-in layup to put the Devils within one, setting up Creek's heroics.
GAME NOTES
  • Smith's 24-points were just one shy of his career-high of 25 and he tied his career-high in rebounds with 10.
  • FDU has now won three straight Battle of Madison Ave. games over Saint Elizabeth's dating back to the 2021-22 season.
  • Tuesday's win was the first one-point victory for the Devils since defeating Delaware Valley 71-70 on Jan. 31, 2024.
