MADISON, N.J. – The FDU-Florham volleyball team swept its tri-match with Rutgers-Newark and Brookyn College Saturday afternoon as the Devils defeated the Scarlet Raiders 3-0 before knocking off the Bulldogs 3-2 in five sets.
DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
- Tayla O'Connor tallied 14 kills, 16 digs, and two aces against the Scarlet Raiders and then 19 kills, 21 digs, and two more aces against the Bulldogs.
- Amaya Ocasio recorded a 28-assist performance against the Scarlet Raiders followed by a 24-assist, 18-dig performance against the Bulldogs.
- Gabbie Hart tallied six blocks across the two matches
HOW IT HAPPENED (RUTGERS-NEWARK)
- The Devils had full control of the court Saturday afternoon as FDU took Set 1 25-14. FDU consistently scored in bunches, highlighted by a 6-2 run with six kills.
- FDU took Set 2 25-7 as the Devils used a 9-0 run to take a commanding 12-2 lead and never looked back.
- Set 3 was slightly closer 25-18 as the Devils finished off the sweep, but a 5-1 run from the Scarlet Raiders at the end delayed the eventual Devils sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED (BROOKLYN)
- The Devils took Set 1 25-19 highlighted by two 4-0 runs and 19 kills from O'Connor.
- Sets 2 and 3 went to the Bulldogs, 25-21 and 25-18, respectively.
- The Devils took Set 4 25-19 as the offense powered FDU through with a 7-0 run and kills from O'Connor, Mackenzie Crandall, and Hannah Weinman to force a fifth set.
- The Devils took Set 5 15-10 to sweep the tri-match.
GAME NOTES
- This was O'Connor's third straight match with double-figure kills.
- Saturday's matches were Ocasio's 11th and 12th consecutive with 20 or more assists.
- The Rutgers-Newark match was the fourth match Hart tallied four or more blocks in.
UP NEXT
The Devils return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 5 as FDU hosts DeSales in a MAC Freedom matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
