Football Downed by Widener in OT

CHESTER, Pa. – The FDU-Florham football team fell to Widener 20-17 in overtime Saturday afternoon on the road as the Devils dropped their fifth straight contest. 

DEVILS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Quarterback Jake Sconza went 31-for-48 in pass completions with two touchdowns and 212 yards.
  • Jeremiah Williams led all FDU rushers with13 carries, rushing for a total of 36 yards. 
  • Williams led the way on the receiving front with 10 catches, 74 yards, and one touchdown.
  • Jamir Daniels grabbed four catches for 43 yards and the second Devils touchdown of the day. 
  • Ginika Ozurumba and AJ Kuc led the way on the defensive front, tallying four tackles each with Ozurumba recording one sack. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, FDU put the first six points on the board with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Sconza to Williams with 6:51 to go. 
  • With 3:51 left in the quarter, the Pride only mustered a field goal, and the Devils lead was cut to 6-3.
  • In the second, Widener went ahead 9-6 with its first touchdown of the afternoon as Devin Ahmed caught a four-yard pass from Caiden Leszczynski at the 8:50 mark. 
  • With 2:53 left before the break, a Widener safety cut the Devils deficit to just one as the Pride now led 9-8. 
  • Then, in the final 2:30 of the half, Sconza led the FDU offense down field and after six straight pass completions, Daniels caught an 11-yard pass from Sconza to put the Devils up 14-9 at the break. 
  • FDU extended its lead in the third with a field goal from kicker George Carr and the Devils led 17-9 with 1:11 left in the quarter. 
  • In the fourth, with 3:01 left in regulation, the Pride connected on a 42-yard touchdown pass followed by a successful two-point conversion to knot the game at 17 apiece and send it into OT. 
  • With FDU in the redzone, a Sconza pick led to the Pride kicking a game-winning 23-yard field goal, ending the game 20-17. 
UP NEXT
FDU returns to the gridiron on Saturday, Oct. 18 for its Breast Cancer Awareness game as the Devils host Delaware Valley on Robert T. Shields Field. Kick-off is set for noon.
