Brooklyn, NY (September 30)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis team (1-0) saw their first dual match of the season at Brooklyn's (0-1) home courts and were able to escape a bite from the Bulldogs with a 4-3 score and their first victory of the season.
The Devils swept the doubles portion of the match as
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) and
Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) worked together to secure Doubles #1 by a 6-0 score over Ryan Sham and Craig Pazarecki. Also recording a 6-0 score was
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) and
Nick Weglinski (Wayne, NJ) in Double #2 over Mujibur Shaad and Allen Mardakhayev. Ensure the final match in Doubles #3 was
Jaden Andresen (Branford, Conn.) and
Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) who was given push-back by Raymond Kazim and Dennis Shender on a 6-3 score.
In the singles portion of the match, Ryan Sham and
Emery went into three sets to decide the Singles #1 win, as scores read 6-2, 6-3, 10-3 with
Emery overall falling in the third set after taking the second. FDU-Florham was not able to secure Singles #2 as well, but
Duvall extended the first set to extra points but lost by a 7-6 score and a 6-2 score in the second set to Craig Pazarecki.
With a 2-1 overall match score in favor of the Bulldogs,
Liwag felt the pressure to succeed and did so in Singles #3 with a 6-2, 6-1 score over Mujibur Shaad. First-year
Weglinski claimed Singles #4 with ease as he recorded a 6-1, 6-2 score over Allen Mardakhayev.
Miller was seen sweeping Singles #5 to earn the last points needed with a 6-0, 6-0 score over Oscar Huang. Although
Andersen was defeated in Singles 6 by a 6-1, 6-4 score to Dennis Shender, FDU-Florham held strong and was able to record their first team win of the season with a 4-3 overall score.
FDU-Florham will cap the week with a home match against non-conference Baruch on Friday, October 4 with a 3:30 pm first serve.
