Men's Tennis Suffers First Loss of the Season to Baruch, 4-3

Madison, NJ (October 4)- The FDU-Florham Men's Tennis team (1-1) hosted the Baruch Bearcats (2-0) for their second match of the week and saw the close 4-3 loss in non-conference action.

The Match started out with the Doubles portion as Matthew Emery (Howell, NJ) and Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, NJ) played against Juan Mendoza and Juan Paredes in Doubles #1 and were given the 6-3 loss by the Bearcats. Seen in Doubles #2 were Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, NJ) and Nick Weglinski (Wayne, NJ) who were just off of taking the win as a 6-4 score was seen in favor of Tuna Nergizoglu and Liam Cooper. Doubles #3 was closed out by Chase Miller (Freehold, NJ) and Jaden Andresen(Brandford, Conn.) and managed to win the lone match for the Devils in Doubles by 8-6 score over Steven Margolis and Jordan Hernandez.

Leading off in Singles #1 was Emery as he faced Mendoza but was stopped almost instantly as the Devil saw scores of 6-0, 6-1. The Bearcats were seen taking Singles #2 and #3 over Duval and Liwag as they lost by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and 6-2, 6-2.

FDU-Florham did see success in the last three Singles matches as Weglinski put up a thought-out effort against Cooper and ultimately won by scores of 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 in Singles #4. Miller saw claimed the victory in Singles #5 for the Devils as he won 6-4, 6-4 over Margolis. Senior, Andresen, claimed the final point for the Devils in Singles #6 by a match of 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 set scores over Brauch's Hernandez, but it was not enough as the tie-breaking point of the match was won in the Doubles portion, therefore the Bearcats handing the Devils a 4-3 overall non-conference loss.

FDU-Florham take the night to recover before hosting Farmingdale State on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 AM.
