Volleyball Completes Reverse Sweep Over Delaware Valley, 3-2

Doylestown, PA (September 25) – In the first MAC Freedom contest of the season, The FDU-Florham Women's Volleyball team (8-7, 1-0 MAC Freedom) completed a reverse sweep in the last three sets of the game, to secure the 3-2 win over the Delaware Valley Aggies (4-8, 0-1 MAC Freedom).

In five sets, the Devils saw Kiara Salme ( Lyndhurst, NJ) accumulate the most digs with 24 total. Junior Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) played both sides of the net with 9 kills and 1 ace, along with a team-high of 12 blocks. Lilli Nawrotzki ( Flemington, NJ) recorded 18 assists to help set the Devils up for the win.

Set 1:  FDU-Florham got off to a slow start as Delaware Valley scored point after point to go 13 unanswered until the Devils broke the momentum with a kill from Genevieve Fitch (Charleston, SC). By the time FDU started to produce an offensive, it was too late as the Aggies reached the 20-point threshold hold and eventually reached 25 total set points before the Devils reached 10 points, 25-8.

Set 2: The second set was seen as another slow start for the Devils, but were able to revive themselves to see the first tie of the match at 9 points apiece after 6-1 run. FDU-Florham kept on pace with Delaware Valley until a 20-18 score where the Aggies jumped ahead with a 7-2 point run, 25-22.

Set 3: The heat was full turned up in the third set as the Devils jumped out to a 13-5 lead. FDU was able to continue on offensive spurts but the Aggies closed In late as the score was seen tied after a Delaware Valley kill. By capitalizing on Aggie's error and producing offensive plays, FDU-Florham was able to secure the 25-22 set win with a service ace by Vanessa Freeman ( Wayne, NJ).

Set 4: The playing field seemed level to start the fourth set as five ties were seen early until Delaware Valley scored four straight points to give them the upper hand on the Devils. The score read 15-9 in favor of the Aggies before it was flipped by a 12-2 run by FDU. Both teams remained in distance of each other once again after meeting at a tie when the scoreboard said 24-24. The Devils claimed their second set by a 28-26 score after an attack error and a kill by Reiter.

Set 5: Neither team was going down without a fight, as the last set was a back-and-forth battle, 10-10, until an attack error by Delaware Valley, allowed a 6-2 run for the Devils to secure the 3-2 reverse sweep for the first MAC Freedom match of the year.

FDU-Florham is set to have a business trip on Tuesday, October 1 at Lebanon Valley for a 7:00pm MAC Freedom contest.
