Men's Soccer Draws Even With Cairn, 2-2

Madison, NJ (September 19) – The FDU-Florham Men's Soccer team were held even at 2-2 under the lights against Cairn. Jonathan Shirley and Genti Dauti both scored goals for the Devils.

In the first half. both teams had chances to score the first goal of the game, but both goalkeepers were at their best, saving all of the opportunities that they got in the first half. The game was scoreless after the first half.

Cairn broke the scoreless streak at 52:43, when Moses Beers found Emanuel Lazor, who shot it into the net past the keeper to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

The Devils wouldn't go down without a fight however as they scored twice within a minute to take the lead. First, at 66:57, Jonathan Shirley (Lincoln Park, NJ) tucked in his first goal of the season to even the game at one a piece. Then 58 seconds later, Genti Dauti (Lincoln Park, NJ) slotted his first goal as a Devil to give FDU a one goal advantage.

The Devils held that lead into the last minute, but with 20 seconds left in the match, Cairn scored the equalizing goal, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw, FDU's first draw of the season.


Anthony Petrucci (West Orange, NJ) had a productive night in the net, earning seven saves. FDU out shot the Highlanders (25-14) but Cairn had more shots on goal (9-7).  The Devils edged out Cairn on corner kicks (9-7). The match was very physical, with both teams racking up double digit fouls, with FDU earning a little more (18-12).
 
The Devils will return home to take on Gwynedd Mercy on September 23rd, at 7:00 PM.
