Madison, N.J. (September 11) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis (1-1) hosted Brooklyn College for Tuesday's non-conference action and claimed their first win since the 2022 season with a 5-2 score over the Bulldogs.
FDU-Florham was able to secure all three matches in the doubles portion. In Doubles #1
Meliha Bektesevic and
Paula Vanegas (Union City, NJ) won their set by a 6-0 score to Natalia Urbaez and Tiffany Edwards. Bulldogs Diana Rezk and Rebecca Finney were defeated by
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) and
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, NJ) with a 6-1 score set. Doubles #3 was rounded out by
Melanie Perez and
Marilu Guzman, as they defeated Oleksandra Shablii and Nora Zhu with a 6-3 score.
The Devil saw much success in the singles portion of the match as well by taking four out of the six singles matches.
Bektesevic started Singles #1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Urbaez and
Kappelmier followed in Singles #2 with a 6-1, 6-0 score win over Edwards. In Singles #3
Vanegas won her first set by a score of 6-3 with ease but Rezk forced the match to go into extra points and fell to FDU with a 7-5 score. Brooklyn claimed Singles #4 and Singles #5 as
Caraccioli lost to Finnery by scores of 6-1, 6-3 and
Perez lost to Zhu by scores of 6-3 and the second set by a walkover on a 2-2 score. Sealing the deal for FDU-Florham in Singles #6 was
Guzman as she claimed the last point for the Devils by a 6-2 and a 6-1 score over Shablii.
FDU-Florham will remain on their home courts for their next contest as they are set to host Lehman on Thursday, September 12 at 3:30pm.
