Wayne, N.J. (October 2) – In it's first match of October
, The FDU-Florham Women's tennis (1-2) played a rescheduled non-conference match against the William Paterson Pioneers (1-0) and gave the Pioneers' their first win of the season with a 5-2 score.
The Devils only saw one win in the Doubles portion of the match with
Paula Vanegas (Guttenberg, NJ) and
Meliha Bektesevic claiming the 7-5 score in Doubles #1 over Hartzel and Paladino. The last two pairings in Doubles #2 and Doubles #3 both saw a final score of 6-1 with
Summer Ona (Washington, NJ) and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, NJ) losing to Hoosack and Yancey, and
Haidy Abdelmonem (Linden, NJ) along with
Marilu Guzman (Newark, NJ) taking the loss from Thomas and Shand.
Singles #1 seated
Bektesevic against Thomas and FDU owned the win with a 6-0, 6-0 score.
Ona was the other Devil who earned a point for the match as she defeated Hartzel after a 6-3, 6-4 win in Singles #2.
Seen in Singles #3 was
Vanegas who unfortunately lost by a 6-1 score in the first set and a 7-5 final set score to Paladino. Hoosack hosted
Caraccioli for Singles #4 and took the game into three sets but saw another point added for the Pioneers as the won by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. Both
Guzman in Singles #5 and
Abadelmonem in Singles #6 were defeated early as they were given a 6-1, 6-1 and a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Shand and Yancey.
FDU-Florham has a quick turn around time as they will be hosting East Stroudsburg University on Thursday, October 3 for a 3:30pm non-conference match.
