Brooklyn Drags Volleyball to a 3-0 Loss

Brooklyn, NY (September 10) – The FDU-Florham volleyball team (3-4) scheduled a non-conference business trip to Brooklyn College (2-4) for Tuesday evening action and were stunned into a 3-0 loss by the Bulldogs.

At the top of the stat sheet for the Devils was Amaya Ocasio (Secaucus, NJ) as she accounted for 29 assists on the Devils and 31 total kills. On the defensive side, Kiara Salme ( Lyndhurst, NJ) was responsible for 18 digs, while Stephanie Lynch (Lynbrook, NJ) chipped in 16 digs.

Set 1: The first points of the set were taken by the Bulldogs but soon enough the Devils found their scoring rhythm and overtook the court by a score of 7-5. Brooklyn fought back through the match and kept the score close. A few errors on the Devils led to a momentum shift in the game, resulting in an 8-5 point run to close the first at 25-19 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Set 2: The second set started out similar to the first as Brooklyn owned the first points.  FDU-Florham then benefited from two Bulldog errors and managed to see a service ace from Genevieve Fitch (Charleston, SC)  to go up 3-1 as their only lead in the set. Even though the Devils continued to score, Brooklyn was able to score more often to stay out of reach of the Devils, therefore claiming the 25-25 win in Set 2.

Set 3: FDU-Florham continued the trend into the third set as the first points were not given to them and instead Brooklyn jumped out to 10-6 lead. The Devils attempted to slow down the Bulldogs, but with multiple straight-point runs they were able to take a 24-19 lead. With the match point on the horizon, FDU-Florham kicked into gear and scored seven straight to force the set into extra points. Unfortunately, the Devil Defense could not hold and was forced to take the 25-23 set loss and a 3-0 loss overall.

FDU-Florham is set to remain on the road for another three matches with their next contest taking place at Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, September 12 for a 6:00pm non-conference contest.
