Field Hockey Stunned in Overtime by Drew, 2-1

Madison, N.J. (August 30) – The FDU-Florham field hockey team scored early and held on to the lead throughout almost the entirety of the matchup, but a fourth quarter goal by Drew sent the game into overtime where they capitalized early and stunned the Devils, 2-1 in both team's season openers.

The Devils found the back of the cage first right towards the end of the first period at the 13:44 mark when Allie Serio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) scored the first goal of the season for Fairleigh Dickinson and gave them the 1-0 advantage.
 
Drew generated more opportunities than FDU in the second quarter, out shooting them 5-3 but were stone walled by goalkeeper Emily Schlessinger (Asbury, N.J.) who collected two saves and both Morgan Keller (Toms River, N.J.) and Michalynn Castone (Nazareth, Pa.) who each collected a defensive save.
 
The third quarter was all defense with no team generating any shots and FDU-Florham collecting the lone penalty corner of the period.
 
Drew collected the game tying goal in the final period of play at the 46:10 mark when Emma Rider found Tyler Olivio for the equalizer and eventually sent the game into overtime.
 
It only took the Rangers 26 second to earn a penalty corner and set up Lauren Cagliostro with the opportunity the put in the game-winner, which she did and secured the opening-day win for
 
Schlessinger finished the game with three saves in the defeat while Beth Kelly made four saves in the win for Drew.

Overall, the Devils outshout the Rangers 14-10, but Drew put seven shots on goal to the Devils five. Both teams drew an even 10 penalty corners on the day.

FDU-Florham will look to bounce back in their first road trip of the season when they travel to take on Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, September 4 for a 6:00 pm matchup.
