Madison, NJ (April 6)- In the opening of MAC Freedom play for the FDU-Florham Men's Lacrosse team, the Devils hosted Arcadia University for a Saturday afternoon contest but dropped it's first conference contest to the Knights by a score of 21-4.
FDU-Florham (1-9, 0-1 MAC Freedom) saw two of its goals leave the stick of
Jarrett Dugenio (Bridgewater, NJ) as he accounted for half of the Devils' score on five total shots.
Arcadia (6-5, 1-0 MAC Freedom) had multiple players score but saw six goals from Billy Burton, who also accounted for one assist for the Knights.
Arcadia was out to a strong start as they were able to net their first goal just under two minutes in on a man-up opportunity. The Knights then proceeded to weave their way between the Devils' defense to have the score read 6-0 by the end of the first quarter.
The momentum carried the for the Knights as four goals were scored within the first four minutes of the second quarter, 10-0. FDU-Florham was able to find an offensive footing as a total of six shots were accounted for but were unable to be introduced to the back of the net. Arcadia capped the quarter with another five goals to have the score read 15-0 going into the half.
It was Arcadia who struck first coming out of halftime, as their sixteenth goal was scored at the 13:39 minute timestamp. Just twenty-four seconds later,
Dugenio found the opportunity to net the FDU-Florham's first goal, after receiving a pass from junior
Ricky Lewis (Washington, NJ).
Late in the third quarter, the Devils saw its second being scored by
Lewis with 3:13 remaining, as well as another from
Dugenio with 2:10 remaining on the clock, 20-3.
In the final 15 minutes of action, FDU-Florham started strong with its fourth goal of the game after
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) assisted first-year
Bud Snyder (Arlington Heights, Ill.) with 13:09 remaining on the clock. The defense remained strong for the Devils' as Arcadia netted its final goal with 2:43 remaining. Unfortunately, there was no offensive spurt seen for the Devils, which resulted in Arcadia handing them the 21-4 MAC Freedom loss.
Starting in the crease for the Devils' was
Kenny Ferris (Fairfield, NJ) as he was assigned the loss while collecting 10 saves in the contest. Recording the win for Arcadia was Joseph Tesler as he caught the ball for seven saves.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 23 shots, 27 ground balls and won 11 face offs. The Devils also finished 13-for-25 on clear attempts and 0-for-7 on extra-man opportunities.
Arcadia as a team, generated 56 shots, 53 ground balls, and won 15 face offs. The team was also 9-for-10 on clear attempts and 2-for-5 on extra-man opportunities.
In its next contest, FDU-Florham will host the Bulldogs of DeSales University for a MAC Freedom match-up on Wednesday, April 10. The first face off of the contest is set for 6pm.
