Glenside, Pa. (April 27)- The FDU-Florham men's tennis needed a 6-3 win or better to find their way back to the Middle Atlantic Conference Tournament for the third straight season and they did just that as they defeated Arcadia by that exact score to punch their ticket back to the conference playoffs.
The Devils jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles. In Doubles #1,
Matthew Emery (Howell, N.J.) and
Ronald Duval (Old Bridge, N.J.) outdueled the duo of Aaron Allen and Kevin McHale, 9-7.
Kelvin Liwag (Marlboro, N.J.) and
Brandon Schwartz (Gladwayne, Pa.) took down Lee Conlu and Matthew Nagy, 8-4 in Doubles #2, but
Jaden Andresen (Branford, Conn.) and
Arman Ali were tripped up by David Cassel and Leo Dupont, 8-3.
Singles #1 was a duel between Emery and Allen. Allen got the better of Emery, 6-2 in set one but Emery battled back for a 6-4 set two victory. Emery ultimately fell to Allen after a 6-4 set three win. Duval took care of business in Doubles #2 against McHale, 6-2, 6-1 while Liwag battled for a three-set victory in Singles #3 against Conlu, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Schwartz defeated Nagy, 6-0, 6-2 in Singles #4 and the playoff spot was secured with a 7-5, 6-3 win for Andresen over Cassell. Ali was defeated by Dupont, 6-0, 6-1 to wrap up the match.
FDU-Florham will play their final regular-season match on Monday, April 29 as they travel to take on Ramapo for a 4:00 pm start.
