Madison, N.J. (April 20) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to King's (Pa.) in MAC Freedom play on Saturday afternoon. Before the match began, the Devils honored their three seniors
Maggie Cronkhite (Deep River, Conn.), Ashley Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, N.J) and
Emily Prachthauser (Morristown, N.J.).
The Monarchs jumped out to a 3-0 after doubles In Doubles #1, Cronkhite and Gaetani were defeated by Ashley Kenia and Hailey D'Amato, 8-2.
Paula Vanegas (Union City, N.J.) and
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, N.J.) were beaten by Jackie Costello and Carlee Dellose, 8-3 in Doubles #2. In Doubles #3,
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, N.J.) and
Melanie Perez (Union City, N.J.) were bested by Emma Rooney and Anagrace Schwartz, 8-1.
King's took all but one match in the singles portion of the match, but still sealed the 8-1 win. The lone win on the day for the Devils was from Gaetani in Singles #3 where she won a three-set thriller against Costello for her first win of the season. She won set one 6-2, fell in set two, 6-4 and capped off the win with an 11-9 set three win. In Singles #1, Kappelmier was blanked by Kenia, 6-0, 6-0. Cronkhite fell to D'Amato, 6-2, 6-0 in Singles #2. Vanegas was tripped up in Singles #4 to Dellose, 6-4, 7-5. Prachthauser was swept by Rooney in Singles #5, 6-0, 6-0 and Caraccioli was bested by Sarah Settler in Singles #6, 6-1, 6-1.
FDU-Florham will host their rescheduled match against William Paterson next on Thursday, April 25 with the match starting at 3:30pm.
