Madison, NJ (April 13)- With a strong third quarter the King's Monarchs were able to pass The FDU-Florham Men's Lacrosse team for a 18-7 win in Wednesday evening MAC Freedom play.
FDU-Florham (1-12, 0-4 MAC Freedom) saw junior
Ricky Lewis (Washington, NJ) lead the Devils in scoring as he eclipsed three goals on seven shots, and collected three ground balls.
King's (2-9, 1-3 MAC Freedom) was led by Ben Spencer and Ryan Lynch as they both netted four goals and one assist in the contest.
The game started out in a defensive stance as both teams were unable to net a goal until the 13:24 minute mark when Kings introduced the ball to the back of the net for their first goal of the game. Three minutes later, they were able to add a second goal before
Lewis put up FDU-Florham's first goal of the game in the sixth minute of play.
A minute later, Lewis was able to tie the game at 2-2 and
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) helped take the lead at 6:16 minute mark, after receiving the pass from
Ronnie Trisuzzi (Rockaway, NJ). The first 15 minutes of action resulted in a tie as King's flung in a goal with seven seconds remaining.
All was quiet on the scoring front to start the second quarter until the Monarchs reclaimed the led a little over four minutes in. Just 39 seconds later,
Jarrett Dugenio (Bridgewater, NJ) tied the game once again with each team having five goals apiece. The score continued to bounce back a fourth between the two teams for the remainder of the quarter but the Monarchs claimed the lead heading into halftime, 7-6.
Kings tried to break away from the Devils early but FDU-Florham was able to remain within one goal at the 9:26 minute mark. The Monarchs found an offensive rhythm and were able to score five goals within two and a half minutes of action, 13-7.
FDU-Florham gave their valiant effort in the final 15 minutes of MAC Freedom action by aiming and launching the ball six times. Unfortunately, those shots were not able to be converted for goals and Kings added another four goals to help secure the 18-7 victory over the Devils.
In between the post for the Devils was
Ben Weintraub (Clark, NJ) (0-7) as he accounted for ten saves in tonight's contest. Jackson Campbell saw seen in goal for King's and received the win with eight saves.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 20 shots, 30 ground balls and won 14 face-offs. The Devils also finished 10-for-11 on clear attempts and 1-for-5 on extra-man opportunities.
Kings as a team, generated 40 shots, 29 ground balls, and won 15 face-offs. The team was also 22-for-26 on clear attempts and 5-for-7 on extra-man opportunities.
For their next contest, the Devils will visit Delaware Valley on Saturday, April 20 for a 1pm MAC Freedom contest.
