Hoboken, N.J. (April 16) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team was upended by MAC Freedom foe Stevens, 9-0 in conference play on Tuesday afternoon.
The Ducks took a 3-0 lead after the three doubles matches. In Doubles #1,
Maggie Cronkhite (Deep River, Conn.) and
Ashley Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, N.J) were bested Lorena Piegas and Polina Odintseva, 8-2.
Paula Vanegas (Union City, N.J.) and
Haidy Abdelmonem (Linden, N.J.) were beaten by Anya Sharma and Emma Eguia, 8-1 in Doubles #2. In Doubles #3,
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, N.J.) and
Melanie Perez (Union City, N.J.) were blanked by Aliona Heitz and Isabella Dona, 8-0
Stevens completed the clean 9-0 sweep after winning all six singles matches on the day. In Singles #1,
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, N.J.) was defeated by Stephanie Untermeyer, 6-1, 6-1. Cronkhite was tripped up by Eguia, 6-2, 6-0 in Singles #2. Gaetani was taken down in Singles #3 by Julia Chiovitti, 6-1, 6-0. In Singles #4, Vanegas was beaten by Dona, 6-1, 6-0. Carraccioli was swept by Heitz, 6-0, 6-0 and Perez was blanked by Piegas, 6-0, 6-0.
FDU-Florham will play its third consecutive MAC Freedom match as they host King's (Pa.) on Saturday, April 20 at 12:00 pm. The Devils tennis program will also be honoring their seniors before the match.
