Madison, N.J. (April 10) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team hosted DeSales for MAC Freedom play and were ultimately defeated by the Bulldogs, 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
DeSales jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. In Doubles #1,
Maggie Cronkhite (Deep River, Conn.) and
Ashley Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, N.J) were bested by Morgan Landau and Alyssa Vandenberger, 8-1.
Paula Vanegas (Union City, N.J.) and
Emily Prachthauser (Morristown, N.J.) teamed up in Doubles #2 but were beaten by Hope Hoppe and Lilah Maus, 8-0. In Doubles #3,
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, N.J.) and
Melanie Perez (Union City, N.J.) were taken down by Emily Prokopovich and Tara Clark, 8-2.
The Bulldogs completed the clean sweep of the Devils when they earned all six singles victories. In Singles #1, Landau defeated Cronkhite, 6-1, 6-1. Gaetani was the closest to a match win for Fairleigh Dickinson University in Singles #2. After falling 6-4 in the first set, she bounced back for a 6-3 win in set two but ultimately dropped set three, 10-4 and thus dropped the match. In Singles #3, Vanegas fell to Vandenberger, 6-0, 6-2 while Prachthauser was blanked in Singles #4 to Maus, 6-0, 6-0. Caraccioli was also downed 6-0, 6-0 but to Prokopovich in Singles #5 and the day was wrapped up as Perez fell to Clark, 8-4.
FDU-Florham is scheduled for non-conference next as the Devils host Kean on Friday, April 12 for a 3:30pm start.
