Madison, N.J (March 30) – The FDU-Florham women's tennis team (0-1) opened their 2024 spring season against Stockton on Saturday morning but were blanked by the Ospreys, 9-0.
The Devils fell behind 0-3 after the doubles portion of the match. The duo of
Rachel Kappelmier (Freehold, N.J.) and
Maggie Cronkhite (Deep River, Conn.) were shut out by Stockton's Sophia Pasquale and Kierstyn Fenimore in Doubles #1.
Ashley Gaetani (Ridgefield Park, N.J) and
Paula Vanegas (Union City, N.J.) were bested by Carlee Cristella and Jamie Theophall in Doubles #2, 8-3 and the tag team of
Emily Prachthauser (Morristown, N.J.) and
Giavana Caraccioli (Bound Brook, N.J.) were taken down by Gabrielle Alexandre and Rocio Lucero in Doubles #3, 8-1.
The singles portion was much more of the same as the Ospreys were able to complete the sweep of the Devils when they took all six singles wins. In Singles #1, Kappelmier was blanked by Pasquale, 6-0, 6-0. Cronkhite fell in Singles #2 to Fenimore, 6-1, 6-2 while Gaetani dropped Singles #3 to Cristella, 6-4, 6-2. In Singles #4, Vanegas was defeated by Lucero, 6-2, 6-0. Stockon finished off the Devils when Prachthauser fell to Theophall in Singles #5, 6-1, 6-1 and Caraccioli suffered a loss to Alexandre, 8-0.
FDU-Florham will look to bounce back on Thursday, April 4 as they host Yeshiva for a 3:30pm start.
