Farmingdale, NY (March 30)- Despite an effort in the fourth quarter the Farmingdale State Rams back the FDU-Florham Men's Lacrosse team into a 15-11 loss in Saturday afternoon, non-conference action.
FDU-Florham (1-8) saw a four-goal performance from
Jarrett Dugenio (Bridgewater, NJ) on 11 shots taken. The Devils also saw four goals from
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) who took a total of 13 shots.
Farmingdale State (8-2) had Adam Giovinco on the offensive attack as he recorded five goals, two assists and one ground ball.
Setting the tone for the game was Farmingdale State as they scored their first goal of the game within the first 26 seconds of action. The Rams were able to add their second goal before FDU-Florham's
Dugenio added the Devils' first goal with 5:37 remaining in the first quarter.
The Rams were able to add another two goals to their side of the scoreboard before the first 15 minutes of non-conference action expired, 4-1.
Farmingdale State started off the second quarter the same way they did with the first, by adding another two goals to their total. At the 8:18 minute mark,
Dugenio netted himself a second goal as well as FDU's second goal of the day.
The defense held strong for both teams until the final minute, when
Justin Perillo (Jackson, NJ) cut the Devils' deficit to three goals, 6-3, before heading into halftime.
The second-half start was completely flipped in terms of scoring as FDU-Florham capitalized on its opportunity to score with a man-up goal from
N.Perillo in the first 22 seconds of the third quarter.
A few short moments later a fifth goal was netted for the Devils, as well as Farmingdale State adding their seventh and eighth goals of the game, 8-5. For the remainder of the third quarter, the Devils were slightly outscored with a run of 3-2, to a total of 45 minutes of play with a 11-7 score in favor of Farmingdale State.
With the Rams owning another opening quarter goal, the Devils were ready to ignite the fire with J. Perillo's second goal of the game at the 8:53 minute timestamp. The momentum kept building another two goals were netted by the Devils to close the scoring gap within two with six minutes to play.
Unfortunately, Farmingdale State also found some offensive momentum and increased their goal total to 15 in the last two minutes. As a last-minute effort, Dugenio flung his final goal of the day to the back of the net, but it was not enough as time had expired with a final score of 15-11 in favor of the Rams.
In the crease for FDU-Florham was
Kenny Ferris (Fairfield, NJ) as he was assigned the loss, but not without attempting 12 saves for the Devils. Dan Erler was in goal for the Rams and accounted for eight saves in the non-conference win.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 41 shots, 32 ground balls and won 8 face offs. The Devils also finished 20-for-24 on clear attempts and 1-for-6 on extra-man opportunities.
Farmingdale State as a team, generated 43 shots, 43 ground balls, and won 19 face offs. The team was also 22-for-26 on clear attempts and 1-for-2 on extra-man opportunities.
FDU-Florham will take a week's long rest before their next game on Robert T. Shields on Saturday, April 6, when the Devils host Arcadia for their first MAC Freedom contest of the year. The first face off is scheduled for 4pm.
