Aston, PA (March 24)- Despite holding the lead at the half, the FDU-Florham Men's Lacrosse team's momentum on the scoring end slowed in the second half, resulting in Neumann University taking the non-conference win by a score of 15-6.
FDU-Florham (0-7) saw a two-goal scoring effort from
Jarrett Dugenio (Bridgewater, NJ) along with ten shots and one ground ball. First-year
Bud Snyder (Arlington Heights, Ill.) accounted for one of the Devils' goals, as well as five ground balls.
Neumann (5-4) saw a five-goal and two ground-ball performance from Connor Hurley to help secure the win.
The first goal of the non-conference match-up was netted by the Devils almost five minutes in as
Dugenio was able to net his first of the game. Neumann was ready to strike on the offensive end as their first goal came just 34 seconds after the Devils' goal.
The remainder of the quarter went back and forth on the offensive end for both teams, but the defensive side also showed for both as one other goal was added to either side of the scoreboard before the first 15 minutes expired, 2-2.
The flame was growing for the Devils as they were able to score their third and fourth goals just a little over two minutes apart, within the first four minutes of the second quarter. Neumann tried to catch up before half by adding their third goal, but
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) was able to give a two-goal advantage at the 9:32 minute timestamp. Neumann was able to take it to a one-goal differential before the half expired, 5-4.
The Knights took their first lead in the first five minutes of the third quarter, but
Luke Dugan (Washington, NJ) tied the game at the 6:33 minute mark as he received a pass from
N. Perillo, 6-6.
FDU-Florham's offensive flame became dim as an additional three goals were scored and added to Neumann's side of the scoreboard to end the third quarter with a score of 9-6.
Neumann found gaps within the Devils' defense and was able to six goals in the final quarter to ultimately secure a 15-6 victory over FDU-Florham.
Sophomore
Kenny Ferris (Fairfield, NJ) (0-1) was seen in goal today for the Devils and recorded a career-high of 12 saves while facing 45 shots. In the cage for Neumann was Owen Avelar as he recorded 10 saves of the Devils 37 shots.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 37 shots, 29 ground balls and won 11 face-offs. The Devils also finished 19-for-23 on clear attempts and 0-for-10 on extra-man opportunities.
Neumann as a team, generated 45 shots, 32 ground balls, and won 12 face-offs. The team was also 24-for-25 on clear attempts and 3-for-10 on extra-man opportunities.
FDU-Florham will return to Robert T. Shields field on Wednesday, March 27 for their next non-conference contest. The Devils will host Albertus Magnus College for a 6 pm match-up, which will be played in support of breast cancer awareness.
