Madison, NJ (March 20)- The FDU-Florham Men's Lacrosse team hosted the Mount Saint Mary College Knights for a Wednesday evening non-conference match-up on Robert T. Shields Field. A scoring surge in the third quarter gave momentum to the Knights as it helped lift them over the Devils with a final score of 11-7.
FDU (0-6) had four different Devils score in 60 minutes of play, but it was
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) who led the Devils as he performed for a total of four points including two goals and two assists.
Jarrett Dugenio (Bridgewater, NJ) was close behind as he netted two goals and took aim for 10 shots.
Mount Saint Mary (1-5) saw Xavier Rodriguez at the front with four goals on six shots.
The Devils were the first to introduce the ball to the back of the net as
Perillo collected his first goal at the 13:47 timestamp. It did not take long for Mount Saint Mary to tie the game as the scoreboard read 1-1 almost two minutes later. Mount Saint Mary was able to take the 3-2 lead in the final two minutes of the first quarter.
After suffering their first trial of the game, the Devils got to work on the offensive and even more on the defensive as a scoring drought of almost 10 minutes occurred for the Knights. During that time FDU-Florham was able to add two goals to reclaim the lead before heading into halftime.
At the 11:01 minute mark of the third quarter, Perillo added his second goal of the game to give the Devils a two-goal lead. Mount Saint Mary was able to find a crack within the Devil's defense and tied the game at 6-6 with nine minutes and four seconds remaining. The Knights took charge and were able to add three goals before the quarter expired.
Mount Saint Mary added another two goals before
Dugenio added FDU's final goal of the night with 4:18 minutes to play. The Knights were able to hold their own on defense to stand for the 6-0 victory over the Devils.
Splitting the time in the cage for the Devils in this non-conference contest was
Ben Weintraub (Clark, NJ) (0-6) and
Kenny Ferris (Fairfield, NJ) (0-0) as both recorded at least one save but the loss was unfortunately assigned to
Weintraub. In goal for the Knights was Kenny Leen (1-6) as he collected his first win of the season with 14 saves.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 43 shots, 0 shots on goal, 36 ground balls, and won 14 face-offs. The Devils also finished 16-for-19 on clear attempts and 1-for-4 on extra-man opportunities.
Mount Saint Mary as a team, generated 22 shots, 0 shots on goal, 36 ground balls, and won 7 face-offs. The team was also 19-for-20 on clear attempts and 2-for-3 on extra-man opportunities.
FDU-Florham will be on the road for their next contest as they will be traveling to Neumann University for a 3 pm non-conference match-up.
