Montclair, NJ (March 2)- In Saturday afternoon non-conference action, The FDU-Florham Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Montclair in search of a victory, but unfortunately the rain put out the Devil's fire as they lost 21-3 to the RedHawks.
FDU-Florham (0-3) saw three different Devils score, each in a different quarter. Senior,
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, NJ) netted his first goal of the season, along with recording five shots.
Anthony DiGiacomo (Paramus, NJ) also collected his first collegiate goal as well as his first of the season.
Montclair (2-0) had many goal-scorers but was ultimately led by Ryan Vierbuchen as he put up five goals and four assists, along with aiming for ten shots.
The RedHawks found themselves on the scoreboard after their first possession as the first goal was scored at the 13:47 minute timestamp. Montclair was able to add another three goals before
Evan Myers (Vestal, NY) scored the Devil's first goal of the game with a little under five minutes to play in the first quarter. The final goal of the quarter was scored and added to Montclair's side of the scoreboard at the 2:33 mark, which ended the quarter with a score of 5-1.
Even with eight shots in the second quarter, FDU-Florham was not able to stop the offensive momentum of Montclair as they added the next eight of their goals in the next 13 minutes of play. With 1:29 remaining in the half,
DiGiacomo found a break in the RedHawks defense and was able to fling the ball in before the half expired shortly after, 13-2.
The Devils were able to find their third goal of the game five minutes into the third quarter as
Perillo was able to capitalize off the previous Montclair turnover. As the quarter continued so did the Montclair offense as they changed the score to read 17-3 after 45 minutes of play.
FDU-Florham was not able to introduce the ball to the net again in the final quarter but did find opportunities to shoot as they recorded 11 shots, with 6 of those shots being on goal. Montclair found their final scoring spurt of fours to ensure their 21-3 victory over the Devils.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 25 shots, 13 shots on goal, 33 ground balls and won 9 face-offs. The Devils also finished 15-for-26 on clear attempts and 1-for-8 on extra-man opportunities.
Montclair as a team, generated 60 shots, 33 shots on goal, 34 ground balls, and won 18 face-offs. The team was also 15-for-20 on clear attempts and 1-for-4 on extra-man opportunities.
FDU-Florham will travel for their fourth game of the season to Haverford College, where a 7pm non-conference contest will be played on Wednesday, March 6.
