Madison, N.J. (March 13)- The FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team (0-5) played their first home game of the season on Robert T. Shields and were sunk by a fourth period surge from Immaculata (3-3) that helped them down the Devils, 11-10 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Devils saw four points from
Justin Perillo (Jackson, N.J.) who collected a hat trick and an assist while
Jarett Dugenio (Bridgewater, N.J.) notched three assists and a goal in the contest.
Bud Snyder (Arlington Park, Ill.) also posted a hat trick with three goals.
Nick Matthew (Kinnelon, N.J.) was exceptional on the faceoff today when he won 18-of-24 faceoffs and led the team in ground balls with 12 on the day while
Tyler Perkins (Richboro, Pa.) led the team in caused turnovers with three.
Ben Weintraub (Clark, N.J.) posted a season-high 11 saves in the losing decision.
The Mighty Macs took a 3-0 lead with three goals in just over the first four minutes of the game before the Devils answered their three goals with three of their own to tie the game 3-3 with 4:07 remaining in the first quarter. Two of those goals came from
Anthony DiGiacomo (Paramus, N.J.) and the other came from Synder. Immaculata was able to sneak in a goal with just eight seconds left in the first to take a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.
FDU found a pair of goals in just the first two minutes of the game from
Nicholas Perillo (Jackson, N.J.) and Synder to flip the score in their favor, 5-4. After an Immaculata goal from Joseph Biuso, The Devils found another pair of goals from J. Perillo at the 7:48 and 4:02 marks in the second period that eventually took them into the second half with a 7-5 lead.
The Mighty Macs scored first in the third period on a goal from Ben Wesolowski but was answered with goals from J. Perillo and Dugenio that helped Fairleigh Dickinson keep Immaculata at bay, 9-6. The Devils defense held off the rest of the period to take that score into the fourth quarter.
Immaculata dug deep and delivered five unanswered goals that swung the game in their favor and helped them take an 11-9 advantage. With 2:14 left to go in the game, Matthew quickly won the faceoff and dumped the ball off to Snyder who scored to make the score, 11-10 Mighty Macs. The Devils had opportunities in the final two minutes of the game but were unable to find the back of the net as Immaculata held on to the win.
As a team, FDU-Florham compiled 44 shots, 34 shots on goal, 31 ground balls and caused nine turnovers. The Devils also finished the game 13-for-18 on clear attempts and 2-for-3 on extra man opportunities.
Immaculata as a team, generated 30 shots, 19 shots on goal, 29 ground balls and caused nine turnovers. The team was also near perfect with 19-for-20 on clear attempts but went 1-for-6 on extra man opportunities.
FDU-Florham hosts their next game on Wednesday, March 20 under the lights of Robert T. Shields field as the team hosts Mount Saint Mary for a 7:00 pm start.
