DeSales Tripped Up Men’s Basketball, 74-47

Center Valley, Pa. (February 3) – DeSales University (18-2, MAC Freedom 10-0) had the lead against the FDU-Men's Basketball (4-18, 1-9 MAC Freedom) team from start to finish as the Bulldogs topped the Devils 74-47 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.
 
FDU-Florham was led by Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ), who scored a team-high eight points and Micah Moore (West Orange, NJ) followed scoring seven. Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ) notched a team-high five rebounds leading FDU defensively for the day. DeSales had three players reach double-digit points but were paced by a game-high 15 points from Jordan Holqvist.
 
The Devils opened the game with a good free throw from Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) but shortly after the Bulldogs went on a run that included 11 unanswered points as DeSales led the Devils 11-1 quickly into the first half.  Shortly after, both teams traded baskets and the Devils saw points from Andrew Piombino Jr.(Rockaway, NJ), Joseph Carney (Garwood, NJ), Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ), Smith, and Moore.  The Devils ended their points for the half with Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL) sinking one of the three three-pointers of the night. However, DeSales was able to get off two more good free-throws. Those points from the Bulldogs saw the Devils going into the halftime break down 31-22.
 
The Bulldogs opened the second half by scoring five points off a good layup and three-pointer. Smith and Klueh attempted to shut down that run, but DeSales went on another run that ended at the 12:50 mark to extend their lead 46-26. The Bulldogs continued to go on run after run but Fairleigh Dickinson continued to score baskets in an attempt to crawl back to the top. The Devils saw more points from Washington, Smith, Woods, and Moore throughout the second half. However, FDU never got any closer than nine-point deficit they had early in the second half as DeSales went on for the 74-47 MAC Freedom victory. The Bulldogs held their largest lead of the game of 30 points on occasion en route to the conference win.
 
FDU shot 35.7-percent (20-for-56) from the floor, 15-percent (3-for-20) from three point range and 26.7 (4-for-15) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 30 points in the paint and received 21 of their points off the bench.
 
DeSales shot 41.9-percent (26-for-62) from the floor, 27.6-percent (8-for-29) from behind the arc and 56-percent (14-for-25) from the free throw line. The Bulldogs scored 36 of their 74 points in the paint and received 40 points off the bench.
 
The Devils will return home on Wednesday, February 7 for a MAC Freedom contest against Lebanon Valley College at 7:00pm. This matchup will be the Hidden Opponent Awareness game in support of student-athletes mental health.
