Women's Basketball Uphanded by Arcadia, 78-66

Madison, NJ (February 14) – In their final MAC Freedom match-up of the season against the Arcadia Knights, the FDU-Florham Women's Basketball team fell to a score of 78-66 in Wednesday evening action.

FDU-Florham (11-12, 4-9 MAC Freedom) saw the scoring efforts of Neysa Aguilar (Middlesex, NJ) who produced 24 points and 5 rebounds. Teammate Shannon Tighe (Wayne, NJ) saw her eleventh double-double of her rookie season of 11 points and 15 rebounds.
 
Arcadia (21-3, 10-3 MAC Freedom) had many points in double-digit scores but had Delaney Bell as the team's leading scorer with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
 
After a scoreless first minute, FDU-Florham put up the first points of the game after a jumper from Kolby Lynch (Morristown, NJ). The Devils were able to expand their lead to 6-2 at the 7:09 timestamp. Arcadia came within one point after a three-pointer, but FDU-Florham was able to pull away and keep the lead for the remainder of the quarter, 26-15.
 
Arcadia kept chipping away at the score and found themselves within four points, 31-27, almost halfway through the second quarter. FDU kept their pace but was not able to pull away for a second time as the score was tied with a minute to play. The Knights were able to find their way to the basket for a layup and the lead headed into the locker room, 38-36.
 
The Devils came into the third quarter with a sense of urgency as the defensive block by Aguilar allowed Tighe to tie the score 20 seconds in. The Knights were able to recover to a comfortable lead after a 10-2 run, 48-40, but were not able to hold on to it long as a layup by Lynch helped the Devils turn it around on an 11-2 run and taking the lead with 46 seconds left in the quarter.
 
Arcadia was able to find a small scoring spurt to reclaim the lead, 55-51, at the end of 30 minutes of play.
 
A three-point field goal by Julia Vazquez (Bound Brooke, NJ) helped FDU-Florham to stay close to Arcadia as the Devils came with three points, three times in the final 10 minutes of play. A jumper by Gabrielle Walker (Old Bridge, NJ) at the 6:47 timestamp was the last time the Devils were within a basket of tying the score as Arcadia pulled ahead for the remainder of the game and handed FDU-Florham a 12-point loss of 78-66.
 
FDU-Florham shot 33.3 percent (23-for-69) from the floor, 22.7 percent (5-for-22) from three-point range, and 78.9 percent (15-for-19) from the free throw line, while Arcadia shot 42.6-percent (26-for-61) from the floor, 34.6-percent (9-for-26) from three-point range and 89.5-percent (17-for-19) from the free throw line.


Arcadia was able to score 32 points in the paint, 9 points off FDU-Florham's turnovers, and 7 bench points.  
 
For their last regular season game of the year, FDU-Florham will host Stevens on Saturday, February 17 for a MAC Freedom contest. The Devils will honor their two seniors before the game.
