Men’s Basketball Comes Up Short to Albright in Overtime, 91-83

Reading, PA (December 7) - The FDU Men's Basketball team fought hard to comeback against the Lions but fell short in Overtime. 

The Devils were led by Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Behind Washington was Mac Creek (Louisville, KY.) with 17 and Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ.) with 15 points. 

During the first half, Albright started out strong leading the Devils with a 10-4 run. FDU was able to tie the Lions 2-2 at the 18:40 minute mark but Albright continued to lead the half with their biggest point differential being 21 points. The Devils made the effort to close the gap, with baskets from Washington, Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ) and James Zingaro (Stratford, NJ) which brought the score to 40-25 with less than 3 minutes remaining in the half. The Devils closed out the half with a made jumper by Santana taking the score to an 18 point difference of 46-28.  

In the second half, the Devils needed a major comeback to come close to defeating the Lions. FDU turned up the heat as they reached a 10 point differential at the 16:47 time stamp with Free Throws made by Amir Williams (Bronx, NY). The Devils continued to fight for the lead, but the Lions defense controlled the back court. Creek broke the Devils double digit differential with 2 made Free Throws which took the score to 58-50 with 10:31 on the clock. Creek and Washington led FDU for the next few plays as they collectively put up 9 points for the Devils taking the score to 65-63. Devils 3-pointer from Woods took the score to a 1 point game with 1:10 on the clock but an Albright jumper expanded the lead to a 3 point difference. Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL) took a shot behind the arch and put the game into overtime, 69-69.  

During Overtime, the Albright Lions picked up momentum offensively, going on a 10-2 run against the Devils. FDU fought hard to catch up, closing the gap to an 80-75 point game with 1:20 left of the 5 minute overtime. Woods, Washington, Klueh, and Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ) put up the final points for the Devils but ultimately Albright defeated FDU 91-83. 

As a team, FDU-Florham shot 38.7 percent (29-75) from the floor, 30.4 percent (7-23) from three-point range, and 69.2 percent (18-26) from the free throw line. They totaled 38 points in the paint, 19 off the bench, and 16 off turnovers. 

Albright shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the floor, 30 percent (6-20) from three-point range, and 72.1 percent (31-43) from the free throw line. They totaled 36 points in the paint, 25 off the bench, and 18 off turnovers. 

FDU-Florham will return to play on December 29th against Moravian for the Steal Club Classic Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
