Bethlehem, PA (December 29) - The FDU Men's Basketball team was defeated by Moravian, 63-99, in the first round of the Steel Club Classic Tournament.
The Devils were led by Noah Pagan (Ringwood, NJ) scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. Following Pagan was Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) earning 13 and Mac Creek (Louisville, KY.) with 10 points.
In the first half, the FDU Devils opened with a 9-7 point run with the Moravian Greyhounds keeping the score close as they tied 12-12 at the 14:58 minute mark. The Devils continued to keep up with the Greyhounds offense with made baskets from Washington, Pagan, and Creek. With 7:38 minutes left in the first half, the Greyhounds were able to widen the gap, leading 21-31. The point differential was difficult for the Devils to close, but baskets from Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ.) and Creek helped FDU bring the score to 26-31 at the 5:58 time stamp. FDU continued their offensive pressure, but Moravian's defense was able to hold the Devils off ending the first half with a score of 35-48.
During the second half, the Greyhounds opened with 14 unanswered points taking the score to 62-38. The Devils began to see points from Pagan, Adam Ziegler (West Grove, PA), and Creek, however the Greyhounds were able to maintain the gap bringing the score to 48-71 with 9:59 left of game play. At the 6:42 time stamp, Moravian went on another answered run, earning 12 points to take the score to 59-94. The Devils fought hard to catch the Greyhounds but ultimately were defeated 99-63.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 33.3 percent (20-60) from the floor, 20.8 percent (5-24) from three-point range, and 60 percent (18-30) from the free throw line. They totaled 28 points in the paint, 27 off the bench, and 6 off turnovers.
Moravian shot 46.8 percent (36-77) from the floor, 38.5 percent (20-52) from three-point range, and 58.3 percent (7-12) from the free throw line. They totaled 32 points in the paint, 32 off the bench, and 30 off turnovers.
FDU-Florham will continue play tomorrow, Sunday, December 30th in the Steel Club Classic Tournament Consolation game against Brauch. Tip-off is TBD.
