Men’s Basketball Rallies to Defeat Ursinus, 94-86

Madison, NJ (December 5) - The FDU Men's Basketball team defeated Ursinus after a neck and neck fourth quarter. 

The Devils were led by Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) as he totaled 23 points and 9 rebounds for the Devils. Following Washington was Mac Creek (Louisville, KY.) with 15 and Amir Williams (Bronx, NY) with 12 points. 

The FDU Devils opened the first half with a 10-8 run against the Ursinus Bears. The Devils maintained their lead with baskets from Williams, Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ.), Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ), Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ), and Washington all scoring from behind the arch. It was not until the 11:13 time stamp when the Bears tied up the Devils, 19-19. FDU quickly regained a two point lead with a driving layup made by Angel Smith (Bridgeton, NJ) assisted by Ryan Merz (Buffalo, NY) at the 11:01 minute mark. FDU's defense controlled game play, as they denied the Bears any points for the next 4 minutes. While the FDU defense performed, the Devils continued to press offensively widening the gap to 14 point difference with 2 minutes left in the half. Game play of the first half concluded with 2 made free throws by Woods, bringing the score to 48-37 Devils led. 

During the second half, the Bears worked to narrow down their point deficit and evened the score to 51-51 at the 15:49 minute mark. The game remained close as the Bears and Devils were neck and neck, but Ursinus was able to take the lead, putting the Devils in a 5 point deficit with 8:59 on the clock. The Devils offense continued to press, ultimately coming back on top with a made free throw from Williams, bringing the score to 79-77 at the 4:12 time stamp. The FDU offense pushed further, widening the point differential of this close game with successful free throws from Washington and Williams, as well as driving layup from Smith to secure the 94-86 win. 

As a team, FDU-Florham shot 54 percent (27-50) from the floor, 43.5 percent (10-23) from three-point range, and 69.9 percent (16-23) from the free throw line. They totaled 30 points in the paint, 25 off the bench, and 5 off turnovers. 

Ursinus shot 42.2 percent (27-64) from the floor, 33.3 percent (10-30) from three-point range, and 59.5 percent (22-37) from the free throw line. They totaled 34 points in the paint, 9 off the bench, and 14 off turnovers. 

FDU-Florham will travel to Albright on Saturday, December 7th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
