Madison, NJ (December 1) - The FDU Men's Basketball team defeated John Jay after a close match against the Blood Hounds.
The Devils were led by McClellan Creek (Louisville, KY) with 18 points and 3 rebounds. Following Creek was Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ) with 11 points and Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) with 10, and each totaling 5 rebounds.
The Devils opened the first half with a 10-7 run leading the Blood Hounds, with the game opening points coming from Washington and Creek who both landed baskets from behind the arch. FDU continued to lead until John Jay evened the score to 13-13 at the 11:48 time stamp. The Blood Hounds kept up their offensive efforts, taking the score to 26-20 with 3:27 left on the clock. The Devils did not let the Blood Hounds out score them as a the fist half ended in a 29-29 tie with a made layup from Devils Jamal Santana (Randolph, NJ).
During the second half, the Devils opened with a 8-6 run and were in the lead until the 14:11 minute mark as the score was tied up again, 37-37. John Jay continued a close game, shooting basket for basket with the Devils. FDU was able to take the lead once again with baskets from Francis Denvir (Holland Township, NJ), Angel Smith (Bridgeton, NJ), Washington, Creek, and Woods, bringing the score to 53-49. It was only for a short amount of time that the Devils widen the gap as the score reached an even 60-60 with less than 30 seconds left of regulation. In the last few seconds of the game, made free throws from Woods, Washington, and Creek put the Devils over the Blood Hounds, defeating them 65-60
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 33.3 percent (21-63) from the floor, 30.4 percent (7-23) from three-point range, and 69.6 percent (16-23) from the free throw line. They totaled 24 points in the paint, 20 off the bench, and 7 off turnovers.
John Jay shot 40 percent (22-55) from the floor, 17.6 percent (3-17) from three-point range, and 61.9 percent (13-21) from the free throw line. They totaled 36 points in the paint, 12 off the bench, and 24 off turnovers.
FDU-Florham will continue at home against Ursinus on Thursday, December 5th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
