Men’s Basketball Tripped Up at Rutgers-Newark, 73-59

Newark, NJ (November 20) - The FDU Men's Basketball team was defeated by Rutgers-Newark, falling to a score of 73-59. 

The Devils were led by Carson Woods (Phoenix, AZ.) and Ethan Klueh (Orlando, FL.) who each tallied 12 points for FDU. McClellan Creek (Louisville, KY.) and Jaqwan Washington (Bryan, TX) followed behind, each tallied 8 points. 

In the first half, FDU opened with a 8-2 run with Devil baskets coming from Woods, Creek, Washington, Amir Williams (Bronz, NY) and Christopher Smith (Florham Park, NJ). At the 11:26 timestamp, the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders began out shooting the Devils and gained the lead. By the 1:34 minute mark, the Devils were in a 10 point deficit against the Scarlet Raiders, ultimately ending the first half with a score of 34-22.  

During the second half, the Devils continuously tried to close the gap, but the Scarlet Raiders lead jumped to 45-28 at the 15:01 timestamp. The Devils were not giving up there, as a 3-pointer made by Klueh at the 8:39 minute mark closed the gap to a 9 point difference. FDU made a valiant effort to gain the lead but, ultimately Rutgers-Newark was able to sustain their offensive efforts, ending game play with a score of 63-59. 

As a team, FDU-Florham shot 33.9 percent (24-61) from the floor, 25 percent (5-20) from three-point range, and 40 percent (4-10) from the free throw line. They totaled 38 points in the paint, 21 off the bench, and 11 off turnovers. 

Rutgers-Newark shot 42.1 percent (24-57) from the floor, 21.4 percent (3-14) from three-point range, and 64.7 percent (22-34) from the free throw line. They totaled 42 points in the paint, 14 off the bench, and 17 off turnovers. 

FDU-Florham will continue away at St. Elizabeth's on Saturday, November 23rd. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
